アラスカの海岸。夕暮れ時、といってもアラスカ時間で午後の10:30。その日の撮影の最終カットだった。いつまでも沈まない太陽に向かって100m程離れたところからお互いのコミュニケーションは全くとれない不利な状況での撮影。眼下には鯨の群れが泳いでいた。

浜田くんが描いてきたこのアイデアは興味深いものだった。そのプランは海辺のシチュエーションだったが、ぼくはそれをプールの底に沈んでいるふたりにしてみた。水面を通って光がさす——外にいるようで水の中にいるふたり——そんな危うくてせつないスレスレの世界にしてみた。

ジョージア州で、これこそイーストコースといった場所を見つけだして撮影。ぼくはずっとこんな風景を探し続けていて、浜田省吾像に最もふさわしい場所ではないかと信じていただけに、そこに佇んでもらった時点で、直ぐに仕上がりには確信が持てた。

その情景は何度となく観て来た映画のシーンを思わせ、背景の大西洋が夕暮れにつつまれると、本当に美しくて生涯忘れられない撮影となった。

デジタルデザインやデジタル写真の表現を続けていると、もっとフィジカルなもの、アナログ的なものをもう一方の脳の思考が欲しているのに気付く。この絵画タッチの表現は小学生だったころからぼくのなかにあって、決して無くすことのできない、最もぼくらしい作品なのかもしれない。
